Hi everyone,

Well it’s been another great week in the Poole Pairs with many surprise results!

  • First up came ALOOO vs Grant and Co, which had previously ended as a 13-6 victory for Grant & Co, ending in a 13-9 victory for ALOOO!!! Massive congratulations to Jake and Callum (pictured in the middle above) for their first win of the season.

This was a match with quality players on both sides in the form of New Milton rising star Andy Tipsana and the experienced Gerard Redman facing off against former national player Simon Heaps and the quickly improving Jack Trafford. Old & Trafford had a tough match on their hands and managed to come through 11-8, game of the night going to Andy’s victory over Jack (8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5)
  • Also in the Premier division came the showdown between Merton and Parkstone in the middle of the table. Parkstone taking this by the comfortable margin 13-5.

Fantastic Start for Bournemouth’s Cadet Teams

National Cadet League 15th November 2015

Today saw the first round of the National cadet League with Bournemouth entering 4 teams in this year’s event which will happen over four Sundays during the season at the Waterside Club in Totton.

Bournemouth entered four teams with the A and B teams in Division 1, the C team in Division 2 and the D team in Division 3.

As there is promotion and relegation after each of the first two rounds, all our teams were keen to hold their places at the end of today’s round. It’s fair to say that they all succeeded beyond our expectations!! The final checked and approved results are not available yet, partly due to the computer developing a headache, delaying the start and causing everyone to fill in scoresheets by hand! Final tables will appear later.

Matthew Stanfield joined Kai Major and Ali Malloch in the A team this year and more than held his own with some very mature performances. Kai and Ali matched up to expectations as well and the combination was too much for the other teams in the Division, with the team finishing well clear in top place. The B team of Dane Major, Elliot Storr-Smith (promoted from last year’s second division) and Jordan Greenwood (new to the Cadet League) promised much and delivered brilliantly. They all played some exciting, attacking table tennis in the process of gaining enough points to be in the top 3 at the end of the day.

In Division 2 we were represented by Bjorn Albert and Louie Gardener. They both started in Division 3 last year and, having moved up to Division 2, were faced with the prospect of just the two of them playing against the other five 3-man teams in the Division over the course of the day. Their other player, Daniel Chaplin, was taken ill during the night and required hospital treatment. It’s good to hear that he is recovering well now. Louie and Bjorn took on the challenge bravely! Their first match was against a strong Winchester team and they lost that one, but then improved steadily during the day  – despite being 2-0 down before they even started each match! – and picked up enough points to finish comfortably in the middle of the table. That was a really admirable performance and perhaps the most noteworthy of the day.

Last, but by no means least, a few words about the D team in Division 3. All three of them – Owen White, Jamie Menzel and George Rice – were all new to the Cadet League and Jamie and George were very late additions to the team after some others were forced to drop out. Like Louie and Bjorn, they also started against a strong Southampton team who were by far the best in the Division – and even more so! Our players could so easily have become discouraged, but they dug in and played the very best table tennis they could throughout the day and exceeded all expectations. Result? Second place in the Division (subject to confirmation) and three young players who can feel immensely proud of their efforts!!

After the sticky start due to the computer crashing, it was a great day’s table tennis. Congratulations to all our players and thanks to all the parents who stayed to watch and support and special thanks to Julie Stanfield, Pete White, Craig Major and Andy Tipsana for delivering and helping the players as team captains and coaches.

The next round of matches will be played on Sunday 6th December. Team captains will be in touch with players once the teams have been selected.

Dorset Boys take Plymouth by Storm

Plymouth U13 Winner

Last weekend, four of Dorset TTA’s keenest players headed off to Plymouth for their first 2* competition of the season.  As a first outing, one never knows how one is to perform or the quality of the opposition after the Summer recess.

I am pleased to say all players gave a good account of themselves with Matthew Stanfield winning the U13s and losing in the quarters of the U16s. Ali and Kai having a great battle in the U16s finals with Kai, this time, sneaking out on top. In the U18s Zac narrowly lost in the semi-finals. Though he was unlucky to get through to the final this time, looks good for the season ahead.

Well done to all players who will be congratulated by the rest of the squad tonight at training.

Are you Ready For a Great Season?

Dear Parents and Players,

As we plan for another Exciting Table Tennis Season, the coaches have met on a number of occasions during the Summer to input many of the suggestions from you and the players. We have also reflected on this year’s successes and identified ways to continue to build for future!

Dorset TTA

The proposed dates for this are highlighted on the Dates for your diary attachment. As you may be aware, last year at one time our expenditure to deliver these far exceeded our sub fees. We were very fortunate that local giving helped with this. However, with the new balls coming out which are double the price, we have needed to increase subs to £5 a session if paid in block or £6:50 a session if paying weekly.  As you are aware, these sessions are not for profit. If there is excess we will use these funds for subsidising training days and expenditure to tournaments.

Tuesday Nights

With 4 training sessions taking place each month

Please can you set up a direct debit for £20 / month with local giving with payments being released at the start of the month.

Thursday nights

If your child has been invited to these sessions too:

Please set up a direct debit to cover both Tuesdays and Thursdays for £35 / month.

Paying for Thursday sessions individually will be £5 / week.

Any queries on the above, please feel free to contact me directly.

A fantastic day for Dorset Junior Second Team today at Taunton Academy.

Team consisted of Jacob,Kai,Luke,Snigdha and April. Great wins by all. Team wins against Gloucester 2: 7 -3 and Cornwall 2, 6 -4. Somerset 1 did prove too strong but the “never give up” attitude prevailed throughout.

Special mention to Kai who was called in last minute to replace Sam who moved to the first team and playing Seed 1 and won 5 out of 6!!!

Well done to the whole team!
