Coaching in Schools
Dorset is very fortunate to have a large number of experienced coaches confident and keen to coach in local schools. This can be to support PE in the curriculum or to deliver blocks of after-school club coaching.
Pathways for Players
If you have players that enjoy playing table tennis in your school, there are a number of excellent opportunities for them to further their game. I would personally recommend Saturday Morning Coaching at the Centre or the Dorset Table Tennis Academy Sessions on a Tuesday evening.
These are a fantastic new creation set up in partnership with Active Dorset, Table Tennis England, Dorset Table Tennis Centre and the local schools. These are set up in local schools for both the school and the wider community. Coaches from Dorset Table Tennis Centre and local young leaders aim to provide a stimulating environment for all participants taking part. The target age range is between 14-25 years old but ALL ARE WECOME TO ATTEND.
At present we have 10 Satellite Clubs up and running in Dorset. These take place at The Grange School and Highcliffe School in Christchurch; Bournemouth and Poole College, Harewood College and St Peters School in Bournemouth; Poole High School in Poole; Dorchester Middle School in Dorchester; and in Weymouth at Budmouth College, All Saints and Wey Valley School.
Competition for Schools
We are very fortunate to have a fantastic relationship with Active Dorset and the County School Games Organisers. During the year there are termly competitons open to Dorset Primary and Secondary Schools. In the Autumn term we hold three events linked with the English Schools Table Tennis Association. These events consist of teams of 4 players in the U11,U13,U16 and U19 age groups. The winners of each competition has the opportunity to then represent Dorset against other county teams first locally and then nationally.
INSET Training for STAFF
Dorset Table Tennis Centre has been delivering Staff Training to teachers around the county for over 5 years. Matt Ware is a UKCC Level 2 Coach and heads up the sessions. INSET days can take place after school or during Staff INSET days. These also support team building amongst the staff and provide many fun activities which can be incorporated easily into KS2,KS3 or KS4 curriculum lessons.
GCSE and A-Level Teaching
Matt Ware a wealth of experience teaching a variety of modules for GCSE. Particular success has been seen by schools in using Table Tennis as it’s sport for the officiating module with pleasing results.
